The Colorado Freedom Memorial

The Colorado Freedom Memorial was dedicated in 2013 and is located at the Aurora Municipal Center. It is one of only seven monuments in the United States that honors all service members who paid the ultimate sacrifice in support of freedom since Colorado became a state.

Its unique design features stone pillars bearing the names of over 6,000 fallen Coloradans from all branches of military service and conflicts dating back to World War I.

The memorial was designed by renowned artist and philanthropist John A. Winsch, with input from hundreds of local organizations, veterans’ groups, families, and individuals whose lives were impacted by their loved ones serving our country.

Additionally, the memorial includes elements such as a reflecting pool to honor those lost at sea, an eternal flame to symbolize our commitment to never forget, and a series of walls that display the names of our fallen heroes.

The mission of the Colorado Freedom Memorial is to honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to freedom, while educating future generations on the importance of patriotism and understanding. The memorial serves as a reminder that we should never take for granted the freedoms we enjoy every day. It also celebrates those currently serving in uniform, and encourages us all to recognize their invaluable contributions and sacrifices.

An integral part of keeping this legacy alive is through honoring events such as Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and other commemorative ceremonies held throughout the year at the memorial site. Additionally, it provides educational programs surrounding military history, engages with local schools, and connects with community partners to ensure the meaning of freedom is passed down through generations.

The Colorado Freedom Memorial stands as an enduring tribute that will carry on for years to come, honoring those who have given the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our country. It serves as a permanent reminder that we must never forget their courage and valor, and continues to inspire us all to appreciate the freedoms we enjoy every day.

We must come together to remember our heroes and their service so that we can assure their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
